Final Preliminary

These are my final preliminary cover and contents page. The colour scheme is the same throughout and appeals to both males and females. The images are relevant to the theme of the magazine and to my target audience. I have used a clear simple font that is easy to read and there is an outline around lighter text so that it is visible. I have used a specific setting on firework's to create the outline for the images on the contents page. This is the same tool I used to create the background. I did the outline for the images in different shades of blue so that it followed my colour scheme. On both the cover and the contents page I have included the school logo so that it relates to the target audience and looks realistic.

Images For preliminary

I planned out how I was going to take these images in a particular way. I was slightly disappointed with the first image as a poster in the background is visible but i will later remove this in editing. I wanted the pupils to look relaxed, socialising as they would at school as this relates to one of my articles. The image of a boy on a computer shows that the school has facilities and the shot shows the screen and the student working, which relates to another of my articles. The third image shows a group of students looking up, been happy, positive and celebrating. This relates slightly to the title and slogan for my magazine of 'High' and 'Aim High, Achieve High', it also relates to an article in the magazine of the best results ever, showing the students celebrating. The image of the girl working relates to the amount of work students get which is involved in one of the articles. I wanted to show that obviously some aspects of school are serious and it is important to study, I also took this image in the school surroundings to show that there are areas to work.

I took images of students working and socialising as this will relate to my target audience, and the theme of the magazine. I will use these images on my magazine cover and contents. Some image are medium shots as this is what is needed specificly on my front cover.

Planning contents

This shows one of the last stages of me making my contents page. I added images and made them stand out more by making an interesting frame. I don't really like the layout at this stage as the top looks full and the bottom looks empty. Also, not all of the tie is visible. I think it would be better if I spaced the images out more so that all the elements of the page are spread out evenly.

This was the next stage of my contents. It has the same background as the cover and carries on with the colour scheme. There are no images on it yet but I have added the title on the tie which I created earlier.

I created this image for my contents page title. I took a picture of a school tie as this will relate to my target audience. I then used tools on micro media fireworks to draw the letters that spelt contents.

Mock up- Cover-

I have changed the colour scheme as I think this one will appeal to both my female and male target audience and is brighter and calmer. I like the background of the final product as it is more interesting than one plain color and shows a variety of shades of blue. This gives the magazine a calm and welcoming mood that I believe will appeal to my target audience (high school pupils, parents and teachers). This background gives me the freedom to use a variety of fonts and colours on both cover and contents page. If I had used the previous colour scheme I experimented with such as the red, black and yellow then I would not have had the ability to use the colours I used for my text, these colours also would not have created the relaxing atmosphere I wanted to be present in this magazine.

The second image is basically the same but I have added and the main image which fits the criteria of been a medium shot . I changed one of the article titles a little . The image stands out really well on the background because the background is made of light calm colors.
The third image is my contents page nearly complete. I have added on sub headings. The sub headings frame the image and overall I have used three different font types for my sub headings. One saying 'exam results' was created free hand on fireworks, the second which is used most frequently I have used because it is simple and easy to read. The final font I have used is the same, however, it is a different colour and has a bold black outline which helps it stand out.

Mock up- Cover

This image is one of my mock up cover. The main colours used are black and red. I like the title style, however it could be seen as a heart as the dot above the 'i' which wont appeal to the male half of my target audience. The slogan also looks a little pink which is too feminine for this magazine. Although the colours stand out really well I think the black is a little to dark and boring.

Planning colour schemes

I have used a bright pink as it is one of the colours that all of the colour schemes will stand out. The first colour scheme is white, dark blue and purple. I think that these colours go together okay but the blue and purple are okay and I don't think they contrast as much as I would like. The next is white black and red, these colours go really well together , if found that red was a colour that my target audience liked as it is a strong bold colour. Black, red and yellow really stand out next to each other, I think that if these three colours were together for my cover it could be too bright and yellow is not a favourite colour of my male target audience. The final set of colours i experimented with is light blue, dark blue and white. I like these colours, they go well together and appeal to my target audience.

Planning Slogans

The main color I used to experiment with slogans was blue. I have used a color that will appeal to my target audience of both males and females. I have used a variety of fonts, some full and bold and one that is an outline. I like the first slogan font as it isn't boring and serious, but its not to complicated. It is also bold and eye catching. I think that the second slogan font is good, however I feel it has a feminine theme and could be hard to read. The next slogan font used is simple and plain, I think it would be easy to read but its has so impact. The final slogan font is the same style as the first, however it is just the outline. As it is just an outline it will restrict what my background colour may be, with this, the first slogan is my favourite.
